Dr Clark joined the Trust as a consultant in infectious diseases in October 2013, and as a senior lecturer in infectious diseases at the University of Southampton.

He trained in infectious diseases and general internal medicine in Leicester as well as spending periods of time working and training in London (Hospital for Tropical Diseases), Australia (Darwin) and Africa (Sudan).

Dr Clark spends half of his time performing clinical duties including the inpatient management of patients with complex infection, and infectious diseases outpatient clinics. He is also responsible for the clinical supervision of infectious diseases trainees.

Within the specialty of infectious diseases, Dr Clark has an interest and expertise in

  • respiratory virus infection (including seasonal and pandemic influenza)
  • HIV infection
  • tuberculosis (including multi-drug resistant TB)
  • chronic viral hepatitis (B and C)
  • pyrexia of unknown origin
  • imported infection (including malaria)
  • travel medicine and global health.
